Shopify development in Chicago

A minimum order value and a price that drops at higher quantities are the two oldest levers in trade selling, and both are frequently set by instinct. Each one changes what customers buy rather than simply what they pay, and a number chosen without looking at your own order data will usually move behaviour in a direction nobody intended.

Minimum orders and the price that falls at ten

A minimum exists because small orders cost more to handle than they earn, and the honest way to set one is from that arithmetic rather than from what a competitor publishes.

Set too high it turns away customers who would have grown; set too low it protects nothing. The alternative worth considering is a small order charge, which keeps the customer and recovers the cost, and is generally received better than a refusal. Quantity breaks are a different instrument and are frequently misunderstood. A discount at ten units does nothing for a customer who needs six, and a great deal for a customer who needs nine — the whole effect is concentrated just below each threshold. That means the breaks should sit slightly above your common order sizes rather than at round numbers, which is a decision your own data makes for you in an afternoon. The rule we would apply to both: publish them plainly on the product page. A minimum discovered at the basket, or a discount the customer only sees after qualifying, converts neither.

We have no office in Chicago. Our studio is in Rajkot, India, and every project here is delivered remotely — if a supplier who can attend your premises matters to you, that is a fair requirement and we do not meet it.

What a Shopify development project includes

Three things, and they are the same wherever you are. What changes is the subject above.

  • Custom Online Store 2.0 theme or headless storefront

  • App, payment and fulfilment integration

  • Migration with a full URL redirect map

The other three, and what each one covers

Each answers a different question for Chicago businesses. None of them repeats this page.

Shopify development questions from Chicago

Three questions about the subject above. How we work, what it costs and who owns the code are answered on the service page.

Minimum order or a small order charge?

A charge, more often than businesses expect. It recovers the handling cost, keeps a customer who might grow, and reads as a fee rather than a refusal. A hard minimum turns away orders permanently, and the customer rarely comes back later when their volume has increased.

Where should quantity breaks sit?

Slightly above the sizes customers commonly order, not at round numbers. The entire effect of a break is on the buyer just below it, so a threshold at ten does nothing for somebody needing six and a great deal for somebody needing nine. Your own order data settles this in an afternoon.

Should the breaks be shown before the basket?

Yes, on the product page. A discount somebody only discovers after qualifying has not changed any behaviour, which was the entire purpose. The same applies in reverse to a minimum: finding it at the basket wastes the customer's time and tends to be the last thing they do on the site.
