Ecommerce website development for Spanish businesses

Ecommerce development for Spanish businesses has two local requirements that international stores miss. Bizum is the instant transfer most Spanish shoppers use between themselves and increasingly at checkout, and several regions have their own official language alongside Spanish. We build remotely from Rajkot and hold no Spanish office.

How do you work with Spanish clients?

We hold no Spanish office.

Work is delivered from our studio in Rajkot on a shared board you can open at any time, with every decision written down the day it is made and scope changes priced in writing before they are built. What is specific to Spain is that language is a regional question rather than a national one. Catalan, Galician and Basque all have official standing in their regions, and whether your store needs them depends entirely on where your customers are and what you sell — a Barcelona-focused retailer and a national one face different answers to the same question. It is a content model decision rather than a translation task, and adding a language later rewrites every URL and metadata field, so it belongs in the first conversation rather than the fifth. The second Spanish specific is payment: Bizum has moved from person-to-person transfers into checkouts, and offering it removes a reason to hesitate. Invoicing is in euro. Contracts are governed by the laws of India, stated plainly in our terms and worth raising with your adviser before signing.

What we build

Four services, delivered the same way wherever you are: Shopify stores, WooCommerce stores, the interface design that decides whether either converts, and the automation that removes manual work from running them.

Which platforms dominate in Spain?

Our observation, not sourced data

What we see in the Spanish market, stated as our observation rather than as sourced data: WooCommerce holds a large installed base among businesses that grew from WordPress, Shopify leads newer direct-to-consumer brands, and PrestaShop retains a real presence here as it does in France. We build on Shopify and WooCommerce. The pattern worth naming is that Spanish projects arrive more often than most as a redesign of something already trading, which makes the migration plan the risky part rather than the build.

What does a Spanish store actually have to handle?

Every layer below is something a store selling in Spain has to get right, and most of them are decided before a line of code is written. Thresholds and rates are deliberately not quoted here — they change, and the primary sources are linked further down.

What a store selling in Spain typically needs at each layer.
LayerWhat Spanish stores usually need
CurrencyEuro, with prices shown inclusive of VAT to consumers
Payment methodsBizum alongside cards, PayPal, Apple Pay and Google Pay
LanguagesSpanish nationally, with Catalan, Galician and Basque official in their regions
Shipping carriersCorreos, SEUR, MRW, GLS; pickup points are widely used
GeographyThe islands and the North African cities need their own delivery rules
Tax handlingSpanish VAT, with one-stop-shop reporting for EU distance sales
Data protectionGDPR and the LOPDGDD, supervised by the AEPD
Consumer rightsA fourteen-day withdrawal right on most distance sales

Cities we cover in Spain

Each city page describes what commerce actually looks like there rather than repeating this one. If your city is not listed, the service is identical — we simply have not written a page worth publishing about it yet.

Data and consumer rules

Primary sources

A Spanish store meets the two standard EU regimes with a national implementing act attached to the first. Data protection runs through GDPR and the Ley Organica de Proteccion de Datos, supervised by the Agencia Espanola de Proteccion de Datos, which has been notably active on cookie consent — a genuine refuse option is a design requirement here rather than a preference. Consumer law gives a fourteen-day withdrawal right on most distance sales, stated before purchase rather than only in terms. The regional dimension touches both: where a store operates in a co-official language, the pages carrying obligations should exist in that language too, because a consent notice the customer cannot read is not much of a notice. We build so every page with an obligation attached exists in every language the store serves. Which obligations apply to your business is a question for your own adviser, and nothing here is legal advice.

Nothing on this page is legal or tax advice.

Where Spanish businesses sell next

These are the markets clients in Spain most often ask about once the first store is trading. Each has its own payment habits, carriers and regulator, and a store built for one does not automatically work in the next. Every other market we cover is listed underneath.

Spanish questions we are asked

5 questions specific to working with us from Spain, including the one most agencies avoid: whether anybody at this studio is actually in the country.

Do you have a Spanish office?

No. We work from Rajkot, India, and this page says so rather than implying a Madrid address. You get a named contact who stays with the account, a shared board you can open at any time, and replies within one business day. If somebody physically present is a requirement, we do not meet it.

Do we need a Catalan or Galician version?

That depends on where your customers are and what you sell, and it is a commercial judgement rather than a technical one. A regionally focused retailer usually benefits; a national one often does not. Decide before launch, because adding a language afterwards rewrites every URL and metadata field on the site.

Is Bizum worth adding to the checkout?

For a store selling to Spanish consumers, in our experience yes. It is already how people move money between themselves, so the mechanics are familiar and no card details are entered. Whether it earns its integration cost depends on your basket profile, and we would rather look at your orders than assert it.

How should we handle the islands and Ceuta and Melilla?

As their own delivery and tax zones rather than as part of a single national rate. The tax treatment differs and so does the carrier cost, and a store quoting one figure for the whole country is wrong in both directions. Your accountant can confirm the tax position; we build the zones.

We already have a store. Is a migration risky?

The build rarely is; the URLs are. A redesign that changes product and category addresses without a complete redirect map loses the search positions the old site earned, and that is the most common way these projects go backwards. We ship the redirects in the same release as the change.
